Dana Lewis was a long-standing volunteer for the
City of Wilsonville and Wilsonville Community Sharing. Tragically,
she was diagnosed with cancer on her 50th birthday and died a few
months later.
In those final weeks, Dana used her precious bursts
of energy to deliver small gifts to other patients, provide moral
support, and to talk candidly about her condition. Dana was a veritable
sprite in her bright red hat, its pompom bouncing happily when she
walked. She was an inspiration.
Small in stature and big in heart, Dana was dedicated
to recycling and loved creating beauty from the undergrowth of her
home retreat; serenity from chaos; laughter from dispair; feasts
from organic produce. She was highly organized, occasionally feisty,
possessed a sometimes wicked sense of humor, and was as determined
to overcome all of life’s obstacles as she was to train the
abused animals she rescued from shelters.
Dana believed in serendipity: if there was a need,
she believed the gift of a solution or help would appear. She believed
that such miracles were the way of the world for all of us.
The Dana Site seeks to put this philosophy into action.
How it Works
If you or a family member has a particular need
or something to donate--appliances, furniture, clothing, bicycles,
medical equipment, summer school scholarships, whatever--you are
asked to call Lani Snyder, Information and Referral Specialist,
at 503-682-6939. She will arrange to post your
needs anonymously on this website. Interested parties can then review
the site to see if any of the requests match needs, products or
services and contact WCS to iron out the details. Everyone’s
privacy is thus protected and respected.
Person to person, one need at a time, an individual
can make a difference.
Dana’s belief in serendipity would suggest
that matches for Wilsonville needs--whether those of a donor or
those of a recipient--should find solution here. You are invited
to check in on the site often and see what happens!
